Torrential rain hits the UK as flood warnings issued and schools closed – will you be affected?.
The remnants of deadly Hurricane Nate are expected to smash into the UK today, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to northern and western regions.
By the end of the week the Nate will push warm air towards the country, sending temperatures soaring well into the 20Cs.
In the meantime the Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place for north west Wales and north west England until 3pm today.
Anglesey, Lancaster, Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle are all in the firing line with commuters told to expect “longer” journey times.
An alert on its website said: “Heavy rain is expected on Wednesday, and may lead to some flooding – for example, spray and surface water on roads looks like making journey times longer.”
The heavy rain will eventually fade as it sweeps southwestwards across the nation, according to the Met Office.
The forecaster said: “Heavy and persistent rain, as well as strong winds across northern England and Wales, will steadily spread south eastwards, with rain turning lighter and winds easing.
“Brighter skies will follow into the north and west, with scattered heavy showers.
“Rain across southern and eastern England will clear by midnight, allowing skies to clear and temperatures to gradually dip away.
“Brisk winds and scattered showers will continue in the north.”
